Darren J. Hunter
Darren J. Hunter is a Founding Partner of Hunter Masalski LLC. Mr. Hunter represents a wide variety of companies in all aspects of environmental, health and safety law, with an emphasis on OSHA, PHMSA, and EPA compliance and defense. Mr. Hunter also has a litigation practice focusing on energy-related issues. In over 30 years of practice, Mr. Hunter has represented multiple energy and manufacturing companies in matters involving complex technical and legal issues.
Mr. Hunter began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Thomas J. Moran, Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. Prior to launching his own firm, he was a Partner at Rooney Rippie & Ratnaswamy LLP, Counsel at Dewey & LeBouef, and Partner at McGuireWoods. Mr. Hunter received his J.D., with High Honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was a member of the Environmental and Energy Law Society. For two semesters during law school, Mr. Hunter served as a judicial extern for Senior Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz of the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He received his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is admitted to practice in Illinois.
As a strong advocate for safety in the workplace, Mr. Hunter has served for over a decade as a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Safety and Health Management (“ISHM”), which provides certifications for safety professionals. Mr. Hunter is also the author of a treatise on safety law published by the Bureau of National Affairs titled “Practice Under The Occupational Safety and Health Act.” Mr. Hunter is a regular author and speaker regarding safety and emergency response.
Mr. Hunter is also a strong advocate of civil liberties and protecting the tenets of the Constitution. He proudly serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Illinois.

Emily N. Masalski
Emily N. Masalski is a Founding Partner and CEO of Hunter Masalski LLC. Ms. Masalski represents companies in all aspects of environmental, health and safety law, with an emphasis on OSHA and EPA compliance and defense. Ms. Masalski also has a commercial litigation and appellate litigation practice. She continues to focus on environmental, health & safety, and enforcement issues associated with the medical cannabis industry. In 2017, Ms. Masalski was named as one of Illinois’ “Forty Under 40” attorneys to watch by Law Bulletin Media. In 2018, she was honored with the Alta May Hulett Award by the Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women.
Before entering private practice, Ms. Masalski served as an agency attorney for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Wastewater Treatment Bureau. Prior to launching her own firm, she was a Partner at Rooney Rippie & Ratnaswamy LLP and a Principal at Deutsch, Levy & Engel, Chartered. Ms. Masalski received her J.D. and Environmental Law Certificate from Pace University School of Law, where she served as an Articles Editor for the Pace Environmental Law Review. She received her B.S. in Agricultural and Environmental Communications & Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Ms. Masalski is admitted to practice in Illinois, New York, and Connecticut.
In 2015, Ms. Masalski prepared the initial draft of Senate Bill 0344 “Lactation Accommodation in Airports Act,” testified at a public hearing before Chicago City Council Finance Committee, and coordinated outreach to Illinois legislators. The Lactation Accommodation in Airports Act was signed into law on August 2, 2015 (See, 410 ILCS 140/).
She is active in several bar associations, including the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and American Bar Association:

LISA J. KOHLNDORFER
Lisa J. Kohlndorfer is the Legal Assistant at Hunter Masalski LLC. She joined HM from the energy law firm Rooney Rippie Ratnaswamy LLP. Ms. Kohlndorfer earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at Marquette University in 2017, graduating summa cum laude from the university’s Honors Program, with minors in Political Science and Women & Gender Studies.
During her time at Marquette, Ms. Kohlndorfer was Vice President of the Film Society, served as a board member for the school’s Sigma Tau Delta chapter, headed campus outreach events while working at the Ott Memorial Writing Center, and led a Leadership Retreat for incoming freshmen. Ms. Kohlndorfer graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago with an Honors Degree in 2013.
At HM, Ms. Kohlndorfer assists the attorneys at all levels: from administrative assistance, to legal research, to trial preparation. She also regularly contributes to industry blog posts covering regulatory updates and is the main manager of HM’s online presence. Ms. Kohlndorfer has a history of working with small businesses and non-profits, and she is delighted to be a member of the HM team.
